Steve has more than 25 years’ experience in Commercial Agency specialising in the retail, leisure and hospitality sectors. He has an extensive track record acting for landlords, occupiers, developers, property companies and investment funds across all sectors and has in-depth knowledge of both in-town and out-of-town markets. Clients he has advised include Sainsbury’s, Ecco, Deichmann, Loungers, Cosy Club, Wagamama, Pret a Manger, Holland & Barrett, Habitat, Starbucks, Capital & Regional, Peppercorn Group, and Crest Nicholson.

His consultancy focus is establishing viable strategies for future performance and he has played a crucial role in advising some of the country’s top occupiers on their acquisition and disposal strategies throughout the UK.

Career

Prior to becoming a founding Partner of BKL, Steve was with Colliers International where he was a Director for seven years, becoming Head of Retail in 2012 prior to the acquisition of Briant Champion Long.

Interests

“My playing days are well behind me but I still love watching rugby, and the gradual return to all live sports is very welcome. I also enjoy travelling so am looking forward to when that’s more possible.”

Andrew Kingston – Partner

Expertise

Having qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 1995, Andrew has over 25 years’ experience in the UK property market where he has developed successful commercial relationships with clients, agents and consultants alike.

Andrew has an extensive track record advising owners and occupiers on a wide range of assets including in town/out of town retail and leisure property, shopping centres, offices and industrial units.

Andrew has worked with a number of owners and occupiers including Aberdeen Standard, Lush, Dixons Carphone, Hermes Investment Management, Hotel Chocolat, Metro Bank, Deichmann, Ecco Shoes, Laura Ashley, Capital & Regional and Grosvenor.

Background

Prior to becoming a founding partner of BKL, Andrew was a Director in the Lease Advisory team at Colliers International for five years after they purchased Briant Champion Long where he worked for approximately nine years as a Partner. Previous roles included working at Healey & Baker (now Cushman & Wakefield) and Chesterton.

Interests

“Away from the office I like to play tennis and squash, and I also cycle. Otherwise, I like to find time to do some work with a local charity that I’m involved with”

Rupert Long – Partner

Expertise

Rupert has over 35 years’ experience in Commercial Agency specialising in the retail and leisure sector, and has extensive knowledge and expertise in development, pre-letting, valuation, leasing, tenant mix initiatives and asset management.

Rupert has acted for brands including New Look, JD Williams, Carphone Warehouse, JD Sport, Sports Direct, Next and Deichmann, and has worked with some of the country’s largest landlords including Westfield, Grosvenor, Landsec, Schroders, Standard Life Aberdeen, Capital & Regional and Hermes.

Career

Prior to becoming a founding Partner of BKL, Rupert was a Head of Shopping Centre Leasing at Colliers International for five years and prior to that a partner at Briant Champion Long for 15 years.

Interests

“Rugby is my No.1 sport and I coach for the Barnet Elizabethans club. I also very much enjoy any time I can get on the ski slopes”

Nigel Panton – Partner

Expertise

With 40 years’ experience across commercial property, Nigel specialises in lease advisory and portfolio management primarily focused on the retail and leisure sectors, but also advises on office rent reviews and lease re-gears as well as industrial acquisitions and disposals.  

He has advised most of the major pension funds and institutional landlords, as well as occupiers such as Carphone Warehouse, Costa, Cards Galore, Menkind, Goldsmiths and Sainsbury’s.

He currently provides consultancy for a number of retailers and other occupiers and also acts for family trusts, private owners and undertakes charitable work.

Career

Prior to setting up BKL Property Consultants with Steve, Andrew and Rupert, Nigel worked as a consultant with Colliers International for six years, following on from 15 years at Briant Champion Long and 10 years at Healey & Baker (now Cushman & Wakefield).

Simon Wild – Partner

Expertise

Simon has more than 20 years’ experience in commercial agency and specialises in the retail, leisure and hospitality sector. He has an extensive track record of acting for landlords, occupiers, developers, property companies and investment funds across all sectors and has in-depth knowledge of both in-town and out-of-town markets. 

Simon has worked with some of the country’s largest landlords including Hammerson, Westfield, M&G, Aberdeen Standard, Aviva and Landsec on projects throughout the UK.

He has also advised numerous occupiers and has been particularly successful in assisting Metro Bank with its expansion across the UK, providing a complete service from location strategy and site identification through to deal conclusion and store opening. Other occupier clients he has advised include Vodafone, Morrisons, Waterstones and EE.

Background 

Before becoming an Equity Partner of BKL, Simon was with Cushman & Wakefield where he was a Partner for nine years and prior to that was with JLL and Churston Heard.

James Burt – Consultant

James has been working in the property industry for over 30 years, initially in residential, but specialising in retail and leisure for the last 25 years. During his career he has advised landlords on shopping centre development, tenant mix strategies and asset management, maximising values and tenant loyalty. 

On the occupier side James has acted for many High Street names such as Boots, Holland & Barrett, Next, Lush, Build a Bear and Marks & Spencer. He can confidently advise on acquisitions, disposals and the best strategies to achieve maximum customers reach with an efficient, ‘re-sized’ property portfolio. On the F&B /leisure side James can count Pret a Manger, Drake & Morgan, EAT, Starbucks and McDonalds as past and current clients.

Career

After achieving a 2:1 degree in Property Valuation and Finance at City University / Bayes Business School, James started his commercial property career at Healey & Baker (now Cushman & Wakefield), moving onto Hillier Parker and consequently held retail director roles at Savills, Jones Lang LaSalle and Avison Young before joining BKL in 2021.

Interests

James keeps active cycling several times a week, plays the occasional game of squash and a ‘leisurely’ Park Run. He is a keen supporter of Harlequins RFC and also follows Brighton & Hove Albion, being his ‘home’ team. He also enjoys live music and belongs to a Film Club.
